Forestry England are looking for a Forest Planning Skills and Capability Lead, based at their Stoke Gifford office. The role sits within the National Operations team and centres on leading a new Trainee Forest Planner programme — recruiting and developing annual cohorts of up to six trainees — as well as supporting the wider forest planning function through training, guidance and continuous improvement work. The postholder will provide technical expertise to district teams on complex cases, including Habitat Regulations Assessments and Environmental Impact Assessments, maintain oversight of Forest Plan status and renewal schedules, and support UKWAS audits. Candidates should be educated to degree level in forestry, ecology or a similar discipline (or have equivalent experience), hold a full driving licence, and have a working knowledge of UKFS and UKWAS. This is a fixed-term post running to 31 October 2030. Closing date: 20 September 2026, reference 478478.
As always, best of luck!
