Tilhill is recruiting a Harvesting Operations Supervisor for a full-time, permanent post based at Beattock, covering timber harvesting sites across South Scotland. The hours are 40 per week, and the postholder reports to the Harvesting Operations Manager.
The role is operational. The supervisor oversees daily activity on harvesting sites, checks machine performance and efficiency, and makes sure health, safety and environmental standards are met everywhere they work. They work with the Harvesting Operations Manager and the Production Planner, keeping the planner informed, and adapt working methods when a site presents constraints.
Other duties include checking consumable stock levels and arranging replacements, helping to identify machine maintenance needs, and contributing to forecasting and planning of the work programme and contract completion dates. The supervisor also keeps accurate roadside and stump stock inventories and written records of site visits. The job involves regular travel between sites and flexibility as business demands change.
Applicants need a diploma in forestry or a related subject, good knowledge of UK timber harvesting operations, previous operational experience and a full UK driving licence. Tilhill also wants strong communication, record-keeping and computer skills, and good problem-solving and organisational ability. Candidates should be able to work as part of a team, meet deadlines and targets, and cope with pressure and changing weather or circumstances. The ideal candidate is practical and organised, comfortable outdoors, and confident dealing with operators, contractors and colleagues at every level.
As always, best of luck!
