Further details/apply

The Woodland Trust are recruiting an Operations Officer (Wildlife) to help deliver plans that reduce adverse herbivore impacts, with an initial focus on deer populations, and improve the woodland ecological condition of the estate. The role covers the North, from the Northern Forest upwards, including Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The postholder will advise, guide and train operational teams, overseeing safe, ethical and legally compliant wildlife management. The work includes hands-on evidence-led interventions, stakeholder engagement, delivering and evaluating ecological surveys, and managing contracts, equipment (including firearms and drones) and compliance. This is a home-based role with regular travel across the Northern landscape, sometimes to remote locations, plus occasional UK-wide travel and overnight stays.

Candidates should be able to deliver hands-on wildlife management, including the safe and compliant use of firearms in public-facing settings, communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, and manage contracts and health and safety compliance.

As always, best of luck!
